In the Wisbech Discussion Forum there are currently views from those who see the town as a beautiful place that is friendly for families to visit and others who see it as unattractively litter strewn and populated by threatening and disgusting drunks. Who is right? Are they all correct, maybe seeing different parts of town at different times of day?
This morning there was a comment from a sad passive individual bemoaning the fact that the local newspaper will not report the pleasant views.
The writer of this comment was almost certainly right. In a capitalist society the stories we will see printed are driven by the owners desire for profit. Headlines must attract by being extreme or shocking in some way. Good news stories can be printed, but only if they are exceptional, families sitting in parks enjoying life are just not news.

The Wisbech community does not have to live with whatever the civic leaders are willing to accept as our reality, neither do they have to have their perceptions determined by the owners of the local newspaper.
"Free cultures get what they celebrate."
Let's celebrate all that is good in Wisbech, and if you have a few minutes watch Clay Shirky.
