If the police are not interested in recording the unique identifiers on high value electronics, and not concerned with getting good descriptions of stolen items then maybe the public should step in.
Nobody would wish to see our communities encouraging vigilante action, but if those persons who might innocently purchase stolen property were given a chance to report any offers made to them could this close down the distribution channels, it could certainly avoid them buying an item that is then disabled?
Most communities now have discussion groups on Facebook that are followed closely by residents. All it would need is the person who was robbed to record on the page the reference numbers, description and photos where available.
Not difficult for most people, as it is similar to posting on a selling site.
Since being robbed I have discovered that my Samsung, end every other mobile phone has something called an IMEI:
International Mobile Equipment Identity is a unique 15-digit serial number given to every mobile phone which can then be used to check information such as the phone's Country of Origin, the Manufacturer and it's Model Number.
Why not report these?
There are numerous shops in Wisbech selling second hand phones, iPads and tablets etc surely it would be possible for the police to give them list?
